Part of our Reader's Workshop time is spent independently reading. Part of being a good reader is to vary our "reading diet." We are keeping track of our genre as we read. At the end of each month we'll be graphing what genre's we read the most and the least.
Knowing what genre a book is can be tricky if you don't know the definitions of each. Beth Newingham, an amazing 3rd grade teacher in Michigan, has made posters with examples of each. You can find all of them here: Beth Newingham's Genre Posters
